About This Project
Murphy Surveys have been working alongside retail giant TJX Europe to support their design team with the ongoing refurbishment and refit works of over 400 stores for their TK Maxx and HomeSense brands in UK, Ireland, Germany and Poland. Murphy Surveys were chosen to support the retailer based on their long-standing relationship and geographical reach, with nationwide presence across the UK and throughout Europe.
The team were originally appointed to create 2D As-Built CAD plans of existing and proposed stores, but as the project progressed and by collaborating with the store design team, the scope of work evolved to include the creation of 3D As-Built Building Information Models (BIM) in Autodesk Revit format, modelled from 3D point cloud data. By capturing precise 3D models of existing and new stores, the architects and designers would have accurate interior models, to help support the design and store planning process. With 3D models of the store, the design team can visualise and understand the impact of the location of key store features, such as mezzanine levels, lifts and escalators before they are constructed. With this data to hand the teams can more effectively design new store layouts and retrospectively adapt or extend existing stores, saving time, money and eliminating any risk of costly reworks.
Murphy Surveys specialist laser scanning teams were dispatched to agreed locations throughout the UK, Ireland, Germany and Poland, based on the clients agreed programme of works. Using the latest laser scanning technology and best practice methodologies, the store interior and exterior building façades were quickly and efficiently captured in 3D. Due to the non-intrusive and speedy nature of the data capture process, minimal time was needed on site, ensuring all work could be carried out during normal stores trading hours, with no disruption to the customers in store experience or the stores day-to-day operations.
Once captured the data was post-processed, registered and modelled in Autodesk Revit to produce millimetre accurate 3D models within TJX Europe’s personalised Revit template. With one of the largest inhouse BIM teams in Europe, the models were turned around quickly, to ensure the client was able to utilise the data immediately.
TJX Europe - World leading retailer of apparel and home fashions in the US and worldwide. Ranking 80 in 2017 Fortune 500 listing, TJX operate 7 retail brands and 3,800+ stores across 9 countries including TK Maxx and HomeSense.
