Murphy Surveys Monitoring at Farnworth Tunnel big winners at NCE Tunnelling Awards

screen-shot-2016-12-12-at-15-10-11Murphy Surveys and Geodata supplied a comprehensive monitoring programme for works at Farnworth Tunnel, which won ‘Tunnelling Project of the Year (<£50M)’ at NCE Tunnelling Awards.

The awards took place on Thursday 8th December with a lunchtime ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.

The reconstruction of Farnworth Tunnel was part of the project to electrify railway between Manchester and Preston. Network Rail took the larger of the Farnworth tunnels and made it bigger, putting both tracks and the electrical equipment through that tunnel.

Murphy Surveys monitoring programme was put in place to validate design assumptions, confirm anticipated ground/structure movement and to ensure workforce and train safety.

All monitoring works were carried out and finished in time and to the full satisfaction of our client the Murphy Group and Network Rail.
