Kai Duebbert

Kai Duebbert MSc Surveying MBA
Managing Director

Kai Duebbert graduated from the Technical University Munich (TUM) with an MSc in Land Surveying & GIS in 2002. He worked for 8 years at a leading aerial survey and GIS company building up production centres and managing projects in Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Germany, India and Ireland. During this time the department he led executed pioneering aerial survey and GIS projects in the gas, power and railway industries in China, India and Brazil being one of the first non-national companies that got permission to perform high resolution aerial surveys. Next to his full-time work he successfully completed a triple-accredited MBA with the Open University (UK) in 2010.

Joining Murphy Surveys UK as General Manager in 2010 he put the company on its current path of expansion through streamlining the operations and enabling the company to successfully execute large projects such as Crossrail with the joint venture partner Geodata. Kai assumed the role of Managing Director in January 2014 with a focus on strategy, finance and operations.

Colin Murphy

Development Director

Colin Murphy graduated from DIT in 1995. As Development Director Colin is concerned with the growth of the company and maximising Murphy Surveys profitability and profile.

Colin has proven his tenacity in building our now very successful UK business by leveraging key relationships and contacts within and outside of the surveying industry. He is responsible for implementing our UK development strategy and is now spearheading the launch of further new locations.

He is responsible for the development of long-term relationships with clients across the UK such as Crossrail, Thames Water, Mace Group and Cluttons.

Through Colin’s determination, market knowledge, experience and professionalism , coupled with the reputation of Murphy Surveys, the company has had immediate success when entering new markets.

Diarmuid Murphy

Diarmuid Murphy BSc Const Econ & Mgmt

Diarmuid Murphy graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) with a BSc in Construction Economics and Management in 2008.

He joined Murphy Surveys Ireland in 2009 as operations manager. He then moved to the UK becoming UK operations manager in 2014. Diarmuid became Director in 2017 and has been involved in the company’s yearly growth since then.

Diarmuid has been involved in several prestigious projects in the UK including Crossrail, Primary Control Network for London’s Dockland Light Rail (DLR), and numerous development sites such as Embassy Gardens, Eagle House, South Quay Plaza and more recently the Survey to BIM of the Old War Office, 57 Whitehall, London.

Ray Murphy

Raymond Murphy Dip Geo Surv. MSCSI, MRICS
Chief Executive

Raymond Murphy is Chief Executive of Murphy Surveys, responsible for the strategic leadership of the business across Ireland, UK and Europe. Raymond is instrumental for spearheading growth, which has seen the company expand to over 230 staff across 11 offices throughout Europe and in achieving consistent double-digit growth year-on-year for the last decade.

With over 19 years’ experience, Raymond has earned himself a strong reputation for his extensive technical knowledge, passion for innovation and in raising industry standards in Ireland. Raymond is an active member of the geomatics community and has played an instrumental role in the development of the geomatics profession, having been the first surveyor in Ireland to introduce 3D Laser Scanning. He is Chairman of the Geomatics Group of the SCSI and former President of the Irish Institution of Surveyors and is regularly called upon for advice, consultation and in providing keynote conference sessions and industry lectures.

Niall Murphy

Niall Murphy BSc Geomatics, MSCSI, MRICS

Upon graduating in 2004 with a degree in Geomatics, Niall Murphy joined his brothers in a rapid growth phase of the company’s development. Niall has a propensity for challenging ideas and a strong background in surveying, that includes project management experience on several large-scale projects. He has a passion for business and people and has been at the forefront of the company’s growth.

Niall has been at the forefront of the company’s growth and his passion and determination provides the fundamentals on which the company continues to develop and succeed. He is responsible for leading, coaching and mentoring the senior team and supporting their professional development.

Matthias Gropp

Matthias Gropp BSc Geomatics
Director / Head of Monitoring

Matthias joined Murphy Surveys in 2006. He has a BSc in Geomatics and many years of experience working in survey-project management and has managed joint-venture opportunities worldwide in the areas of monitoring and metrology, particularly in the urban infrastructure and industrial sectors.

As Director and Head of Monitoring, Matthias is an accomplished senior survey engineer and manager with a demonstrable record of achievement implementing newest technology under challenging access and time conditions.

He combines a practical approach with cutting edge technologies, while keeping cost under control and delivering high quality results.

Trevor Moore

Trevor Moore
Head of Infrastructure

After graduating from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 1999 where he studied surveying, Trevor spent 6 years working on various projects throughout the UK and Europe gaining valuable survey experience in the construction rail, aviation and industrial sectors. Day to day tasks involved performing topographic, setting out, engineering and monitoring surveys as well as post processing of the data and producing the required deliverables.

This broad range of experience proved invaluable as his career progressed and he started working as a Project Manager and later a Divisional Manager. Experience in strategic thinking and commercial astuteness were gained as a result of this career progression and enabled him to successfully perform his current role as the Department Head for Infrastructure Surveys.

As Head of Infrastructure, Trevor is the main point of contact for new enquiries in this sector and provides technical and cost proposals and for new projects as well as assuming overall management and responsibility of these project.

Colin Simpson

Colin Simpson B.Eng (Hons), Mechanical Engineering
Manager General Surveys

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering at Glasgow University in 2002, Colin found his career path move into surveying.

Colin has over 10 years of experience working and managing projects within some of the most challenging environments and conditions across the UK. Projects include rail work with London Underground, major construction sites, listed buildings, restricted and sensitive sites, laser scanning, large scale topographical sites, measured buildings and river surveys.

Following five years of work based in Scotland, Colin began work with Murphy Surveys and now combines a role as Project Manager, Head of Staff Training and Survey Processing Manager. Within each of these roles, Colin continues to strive to improve quality and performance throughout the company.

Spyros Kalykakis

Spyros Kalykakis BEng (Hons) Surveying Engineer, GCInstCES
Project Manager

Spyros graduated from the Technical University of Athens in Land Surveying in 2004.

From the beginning of his career, Spyros been predominantly been involved in managing projects. He has vast experience in Telecom’s field for providers in Europe and Africa. He worked as the lead surveyor and quantity manager for large environmental projects in the Balkans Peninsula.

Spyros joined Murphy Surveys in 2012 initially to run an ongoing project with Cluttons Telecom updating lease plans of O2 antenna’s network. Due to his ability to undertake and efficiently plan demanding projects he became the Hydrographic Manager at the UK office.

Spyros has been involved in and managed a number of important projects including Mount Anvil’s Eagle House tendon survey with Hilti scanner, Alindgbourne hydrographic survey and Chalk Farm survey of 700 river sections. He is also currently responsible for all projects related with Highway Agency’s Smart Motorway Scheme.
