Since its humble beginnings in 1983, Murphy Surveys, a family run business has experienced tremendous growth on every level. This continuing success is attributed to the combined dedication, experience, skill and leadership of its Directors Raymond, Colin and Niall Murphy who have been at the helm since the late 1990's.
Each of the brothers joined the company following graduation and together they have been responsible for growing the company from a staff of three to its current size of 60+ with five offices and immediate plans for further growth and development.

As Managing Director, Raymond is responsible for strategic growth of the Irish business. A graduate of the Institute of Technology Dublin, Raymond was awarded the prestigious Irish Institution of Surveyor’s accolade of “Top Graduate in Geomatics” and was the first surveyor in Ireland to introduce Terrestrial Laser Scanning.
As a result of his comprehensive, professional and technical surveying experience, Raymond is regularly called upon for advice and consultation. In addition to this, he has personally managed large and comprehensive surveying projects in Ireland and further afield.
Working across all sectors, Raymond has been involved in notable projects such as the monitoring of the Irish Rail Bridge in Malahide following its collapse, Dublin Airport T2, the DART Interconnector Tunnel Dublin and the Grangegorman redevelopment. His experience ensures he is intimately familiar with every aspect of the surveying industry. Whilst developing the company, he ensures that the fundamentals of the service we offer, our consultative, flexible approach and problem solving is not compromised. This approach has enabled us maintain a competitive edge. It ensures that we offer what is widely regarded as the best service in the industry today.
A keen sportsman, Raymond has recently taken up rowing (quads and pairs) and has started competing regularly in this discipline. For many years, Ray has been keen cyclist and mountain runner. His interest these sports see’s him partake in various triathlons and endurance races such as the Four Peaks Challenge giving him the opportunity to raise funds for charity.
Raymond is a professional member of the Irish Institution of Surveyors.
In his role as Financial Director / Business Operations, Niall, with the assistance of his team, is responsible for the day to day operations, management and affairs of each of our offices. Like Colin and Raymond, Niall is also a graduate of the Institute of Technology Bolton Street, Dublin where he obtained a degree in Geomatics.
A critical aspect of Niall’s role is the strategic development of the company. The continued success of Murphy Surveys in this challenging economic climate, in addition to our long term growth is of paramount importance and is the core of Niall’s focus.
Niall also works very closely with Colin and Raymond with regard to the commercial development of the company and as such is responsible for the development of business to key marketplaces in both Ireland and the UK.
Having worked on large scale projects such as the Poolbeg Gas pipeline, the redevelopment of Clancy Barracks Dublin and the N3 Road Survey for Donegal County Council, Niall has amassed considerable field experience in addition to his current management role.
When Niall’s financial hat is off, his family hat is on and he loves to spend time with his young family doing all things doting daughters love their dads to do. Niall is a very keen cyclist and has been since his teenage years, competing when the opportunity arises. The interest in participating in team endurance events runs in the family and Niall has partaken in several triathlons and endurance events such as the Focus Ireland 4 Peaks Challenge
Niall is a professional member of the Irish Institution of Surveyors.

As International Business Development Director, Colin has responsibility for the operations and expansion of Murphy Surveys outside Ireland.
Continuing the family tradition in the surveying business, Colin graduated from the Institute of Technology with a Certificate in Geo-Surveying. The first of the three brothers to join the family business, Colin is focused on the growth of Murphy Surveys in the overseas markets where he is focusing on our expansion and development in the UK.
Following his successful opening and launch of our Cork office in 2005, Colin then concentrated his efforts on our development in the UK. By the end of 2007 Colin had successfully launched two offices in London and is working with his team to see them go from strength to strength. Not a man to sit still for long, Colin is currently identifying additional locations in the UK from which our company can experience further growth and success.
Colin's determination, knowledge, experience and professionalism coupled with the reputation he has worked hard to build for Murphy Surveys has led to our immediate success in these new markets.
Colin has worked on many complex and prestigious contracts across a number of sectors including utility and infrastructure work, large scale topographical and measured build surveys. He counts the regeneration in Battersea London, (valued at €212.5 million) among his projects of note. To date, we are delighted to include Thames Water, MACE Group, CBRE, Cluttons, JONAP, Foster and Partners and Crossrail among our list of clients.
A motorsport fanatic, when Colin is not to be found in the office, you are sure to see him trackside at as many of the major motor sport events as he can get to. In fact, if you press Colin, I am sure he will confess to having dabbled in some car racing in a former life. Between that and keeping up his flying time for his pilot’s license, Colin’s down time is spent partaking in various endurance sports events with his brothers.

Stuart joined the Board as Chairman, in May 2009, bringing to the company his vast experience in international business.
After having graduated as a Production Engineer, Stuart quickly realised that his passion was more towards commerce and joined Johnson & Johnson as a Product Marketing Manager. During his time with the Hospital Division of J.& J., he retrained and became one of the first recipients of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Diploma. He has been a Member of the C.I.M. since 1981.
Stuart subsequently operated at Managing Director and CEO level for over 20 years, spending some 7 years with Philips NV, becoming Managing Director of the telecommunications division. During his two decades in the telecom/IT sector, Stuart spent periods with Alcatel, GEC and Plessey and he adds knowledge of corporate best practice to our company today.
His primary area of expertise is sustainable global growth of companies and he enjoyed a stellar period in the nineties as the Europe, Middle East & Africa CEO of NASDAQ company, Brite Voice Inc., whilst that organisation was a global leader providing infrastructure to the world’s rapidly expanding GSM networks. He has worked in the geomatics industry since 2005 and has become a well respected professional in the construction sector.
Outside of work, Stuart, father of two sons and two daughters, has been heavily involved in a number of sports. As a county rugby player for 15 years, he played over 350 games during his career. He has also been connected with cycling all of his life as a rider, coach, team manager and administrator. Today he enjoys his golf, skiing and is an active motorcyclist.
Stuart’s role on the Board is to advise on strategies, market analysis, financial controls, plus, mergers and acquisitions.
