Happy Birthday Murphy Surveys UK!
It is celebrations all around as Murphy Surveys UK mark their ten-year anniversary following the company’s launch in London in 2006. From a small core team of dedicated staff, the company has grown substantially in these short ten years and is now positioned as one of the leading industry players across the UK, boasting offices in Belfast, Glasgow and Northwich alongside the flagship London base.
Staff got together and enjoyed a day of celebrations at The Albion, London to mark the occasion and reflect on their achievements thus far.
Speaking on the milestone, Managing Director Kai Duebbert commented:
“Growing organically from just 4 people in 2006, we are now over 70 full time staff based in London and Northwich. It’s safe to say that this is a huge success based on having the best staff, processes and quality. It is something that all can be proud of and we look forward to continuing on this path for the foreseeable future!”
Associate Director Matthias Gropp noted how the team built the company from the foundations up to become the strong industry player it is today:
“Colin Murphy started with big enthusiasm supported by the Irish office and a core team in 2006. Over the first years, Murphy Surveys innovation and the right investment as well as the collaboration with strong partners brought the breakthrough and an explosive growth during the Crossrail years.
This combined with a fair management style and brilliant people deciding to work with Murphy Surveys has established a serious player in the UK survey industry with ISO certification and decent balance sheet bidding often unmatched against less vigilant competitors.”
Looking to the future, Diarmuid Murphy, company Director stated that:
“10 years in the UK has seen our company grow from just a handful of people to over 70 full time staff. We have been involved in many varied, challenging and exciting projects such as Crossrail, Heathrow Airport, DLR Primary Control network and many others. This has all been achievable thanks to the commitment of our staff and our dedication to providing a high quality client centred service. We look forward to the next decade and exciting challenges it will bring”
The hard work and dedication of the UK team has led to them being shortlisted in the 2016 Civil Engineering Tunnelling Awards. For the category of ‘Ground Investigation and Monitoring’ the team’s entry focused on the online and real time use of laser scanning and wireless tilt sensor monitoring of structures, buildings and tunnels on a prestigious Regent’s Park project in London.
Murphy Surveys UK are not planning on resting on their accomplishments and continuously look to invest in skilled personnel to benefit the progression of the company. Through working closely with universities and local community schemes, Murphy Surveys UK offers a number of apprenticeship schemes and recruitment opportunities for those with the drive, the know-how and the ambition to work in such a highly technical and quality-driven sector.
Kai Duebbert noted ‘A lot of focus is put on bringing up the next generation of surveyors and improving the perception of surveyors in society – over the last years we have consistently offered 4 places for graduates and 6 places for summer work experiences. Additionally, we are one of the trailblazer companies helping to establish an apprenticeship scheme for Geospatial Technician Apprenticeship in the UK in cooperation with The Survey Association.’
Not only has this assisted Murphy Surveys in acquiring a network of highly trained and motivated personnel to deliver its solutions, but it has also demonstrated to the wider sector how organisations can potentially rise to the challenge of nationwide skill shortages and provide more opportunities for youths looking for careers in the sector.
As the company marks this landmark occasion they continue to look to the future and what the next ten years and beyond have in store. Innovation is key and recently the company introduced MurphyUAV, implementing drone technology for survey/inspection services, as well as the Specialist Inspections Division to their existing portfolio of services including laser scanning, hydrographic surveys, site engineering services, GPR, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Monitoring, Topographic Surveys, Conservation/Heritage Surveys, Pipeline surveys, Property services, Underground Utility Surveys, Measure Building Surveys and close range laser scanning.
From the entire Murphy Surveys team across Ireland and the UK, we would all like to wish Murphy Surveys UK a very Happy 10th Birthday!
